Gene Watson Peer's Quote from David Ingles: February 2014

Gene Watson's Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene Watson's Peers, who were contacted during 2014, were most gracious with their time and words.

It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from David Ingles, which he submitted to this site on Friday 7 February 2014.

Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to David Ingles who made a special contribution to this unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

David Ingles
This quote was submitted on Friday 7 February 2014.

'Thank you asking me to provide a 'Peer's Quote'.

As someone who has written and recorded music, I've learned what it takes to provide a lasting performance.

Gene Watson: 'Gene Watson' (Wide World Records, 1969 / Stoneway Records, 1973)

I had not heard the song, 'Two Right People', in years.

I listened to it on the internet and I must say that Gene did a great job.

Gene has always had one of the best voices in the business.

I was extremely pleased with the treatment that was given by both Gene, and by the musicians'

Thank you, David Ingles, for your support of Gene Watson.

About David Ingles...

Davidi Igles

David Ingles was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma and moved to Bristow when he was in the seventh grade.

Since he was just a little boy, David Ingles has enjoyed singing.

David Ingles remembers, when a friend of his put on a record by the gospel group, The Blackwood Brothers, that he knew that he wanted to sing just like them.

After his school days, David Ingles went on to Bethany College and eventually started a singing group, touring and singing in youth revivals during the summer.  Then an important call came from Earl Weatherford of The Weatherford Quartet.  Earl Weatherford was looking for a new lead singer and hoped that David Ingles would be interested, which he was.  David Ingles took the job and sang with The Weatherfords until being drafted into the United States Army.

Following his stint in the United States Army, David Ingles found himself back in Tulsa where he began to work as a disc jockey at radio station KFMJ.  As an announcer, David Ingles used to dream of one day owning his own radio station.  David Ingles told the engineer there about his dream; he said it would be impossible due to the lack of radio frequencies in Tulsa.

David Ingles would later learn to check things out for himself, but for then, he gave up on his dream, until many years later.

In the meantime, David Ingles turned his attention to singing once again, this time as a country music artist.  After some unsuccessful attempts at recording popular country tunes, written and recorded by others, David Ingles began to write his own country songs, which landed him on the prestigious Capitol Records label.  But, even that didn't give him the success that he so much desired.

David Ingles eventually realised that God had different plans for his singing and writing career, His plans.  David Ingles already knew that the Bible said, 'I wish above all things that you prosper and be in good health'.  However, David Ingles didn't feel that he was prospering like he should; something had to be wrong.

David Ingles began to study the Bible like he never had before.  David Ingles knew that God had a plan for his life and, if he was going to find out what it was, he was going to have to search His Word for direction.  That direction was finally revealed as he began to write about a new kind of love.  Words and tunes began to flow from David Ingles' pen by the inspiration of God, songs such as 'There's A Whole Lot of People Going Home', 'Garment of Praise' and 'Oasis of Love'.

Eventually, David Ingles was asked to sing these songs at a Kenneth Hagin Camp Meeting, which opened many other doors and opportunities.

David Ingles began to travel and sing all around the world, and has had his songs recorded by a number of popular names, including Governor Jimmie Davis (11 September 1899 - Sunday 5 November 2000), Richard Roberts, Kenneth Copeland, a former Miss America, and many others.

When doors began to open, one of those was the opportunity to acquire a new frequency for an FM radio station in Tulsa.  In 1986, David Ingles signed-on KNYD, heard at 90.5FM in Tulsa and, a few years later, other radio stations came on air.  These full-power radio stations, together with their translator sites across the United States, made up what David Ingles called 'Oasis Radio Network'.

Along with the blessings of a radio network, David Ingles is also Pastor of Walnut Grove Church in Broken Arrow.

David Ingles has a loving and devoted wife named Sharon and three grown children, David Warren, Julia and Shelly.

David Ingles believes that the Word of God works and that it is the key to our success in life.  Sometimes people spend their whole lives trying to find out what their true purpose is for living, an impossible task without God.  David Ingles believes that we need to learn to seek Him and His direction.

Jimmie Davis: 'His Marvelous Grace' (Decca Records, 1968)

Jimmie Davis (11 September 1899 - Sunday 5 November 2000) recorded David Ingles' 'Inside His Arms', which was co-written with Melvin Delee Yandell (13 March 1915 - Sunday 15 November 1998), and included the track on 'His Marvelous Grace' (Decca Records, 1968).

Jimmie Davis: 'Let Me Walk With Jesus' (Decca Records, 1969)

Jimmie Davis (11 September 1899 - Sunday 5 November 2000) recorded David Ingles' 'Now I Have Everything', which was co-written with Charlie L. Yandell (Tuesday 24 January 1928 - Saturday 3 December 2016), and included the track on 'Let Me Walk With Jesus' (Decca Records, 1969).

Gene Watson: 'Gene Watson' (Wide World Records, 1969 / Stoneway Records, 1973)

Gene Watson recorded David Ingles' 'Two Right People' and included the track on 'Gene Watson' (Wide World Records, 1969 / Stoneway Records, 1973).
