'Gene Watson was very much a major league artist in the world of country music when this compilation album of (Capitol Records) material was released in May 1978.





Gene Watson's 'The Best of Gene Watson' includes tracks from 'Gene Watson' (Wide World Records, 1969 / Stoneway Records, 1973), 'Love In The Hot Afternoon' (Capitol Records, 1975), 'Because You Believed in Me' (Capitol Records, 1976) and 'Paper Rosie' (Capitol Records, 1977).

Gene Watson's 'The Best of Gene Watson' also included two tracks, 'Shadows On The Wall' (written by Thomas Becket) and 'John's Back in Town', both of which were previously released as 45rpm vinyl singles only.

The latter track, 'John's Back in Town', was written by Bill Mack and Waylon Jennings (Tuesday 15 June 1937 - Wednesday 13 February 2002).
