Gene Watson's 'A Way To Survive' (Step One Records, 1997) was Gene Watson's fourth, and final, album for Step One Records, and was produced by Ray Pennington (Friday 22 December 1933 - Wednesday 7 October 2020).

Released in 1997, Gene Watson's 'A Way To Survive' (Step One Records, 1997) included ten tracks, but only seven of these tracks were new recordings.



Gene Watson's 'A Way To Survive' (Step One Records, 1997) included a re-recording of 'Fourteen Carat Mind', which was written by Dallas Frazier (Friday 27 October 1939 - Friday 14 January 2022) and Larry Lee Favorite (1939 - Saturday 26 May 2001), and was Gene Watson's one and only Billboard No.1 country music hit single (in January 1982).
