Overview
Gene Watson's fourth (and final) album for Step
One Records was 'A Way to Survive', which was released in 1997.
The 'A Way to Survive' album is a rather unusual release. It includes
ten tracks, but only seven of these tracks were new songs.
'A
Way to Survive' includes a re-recording of 'Fourteen carat mind' (Gene's
one & only Billboard No.1 country hit from January 1982), the original
version of which can be found on the 'Old Loves
Never Die' album, which
was released on MCA Records in 1981.
The 'A Way to Survive' album
is an unusual in another way.
The tracks 'Old porch swing' & 'Class reunion'
are also included; these aforementioned tracks were
originally included on the 'In Other Words' album, which
was released on Broadland Records/Mercury Canada in 1992.
All
tracks on the 'A Way to Survive' album were produced by Ray Pennington,
with the exception of tracks indicated thus

The 'A Way to Survive' album was recorded at Oak Valley Studio,
Nashville, Tennessee, where the Recording Engineer was
Kevin McManus.

The 'In Other Words'
album was released on Broadland Records/Mercury Canada in 1992
& was
produced by Gary Buck (RIP). The Recording Engineer was Les Ladd &
the studio used was Reflections in Nashville, Tennessee.
The
Mastering was undertaken by Denny Purcell, Georgetown Masters. The recording sessions for the
'In
Other Words' album
took place in Nashville, Tennessee between December 1991 & February 1992.
