Tommy Cash (April 2005)

Gene Watson's peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene's Peers who were contacted in 2005 were most gracious with their time & words.  It is here, within this special part of gene-watson.com, that you have an opportunity to read Tommy Cash's quote, which he submitted to this site on Saturday 23 April 2005.

I (Sean Brady) would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Tommy Cash who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

'Gene Watson is a friend of mine & I think he is one of the top three best
singers in country music.  Along with George Jones & Vern Gosdin,
he touches your heart strings down to the bone.

May I wish Gene Watson all the very best with his (fan-based) website'.

Thank you,
Tommy Cash, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Tommy Cash...

Tommy Cash was born in Arkansas in 1940 (one of seven children in his family), eight years after his brother Johnny.  Tommy formed his first band in high school & enlisted in the Army after graduation.  He also became a deejay for the American Forces Radio Network.

After the Army, Tommy played with Hank Williams Junior & later gained a record deal from Musicor in 1965.  In 1966, he joined United Artists & just missed the country Top 40 in 1968 with 'The sounds of goodbye'.

In late 1969, while on Epic Records, he delivered his biggest hit, 'Six white horses'.  Tommy enjoyed two Top 10 singles in 1970 ('One song away' & 'Rise & shine') and one Top 20 hit ('I recall a gypsy woman').
