Gene Watson & the Farewell Party Band will grace the
hallowed stage of the
Grand Ole
Opry in Nashville on Saturday 3 October 2009.
Gene Watson will grace the hallowed stage of the Grand
Ole Opry with his highly acclaimed Farewell Party Band at 7.30pm CST &
10.00pm CST.
Gene is scheduled to perform two songs at 7.30pm CST & two songs at 10.00pm
CST & he is expected to feature one track from his new 'A
Taste of the Truth' album, possibly the title cut.
On Wednesday 22 July 2009, Gene Watson
was in Nashville & participated in the taping of an edition of 'Larry's Country Diner' with host
Larry Black.
'Larry's
Country Diner' will air on RFD-TV on Thursday 15 October 2009 at 6.00pm
EST (5.00pm CST) with a re-airing on Saturday 17 October 2009 at 11.00pm EST
(10.00pm CST).
Gene Watson (who is pictured above on the set of 'Larry's Country Diner'
with Larry Black & Keith Bilbrey) sang acoustically, with Jimmy Capps on guitar, & performed 'Take
me as I am (or let me go)', 'Fourteen carat mind', 'Rambling Rose' & part of 'Farewell
party'.
'Sheriff' Jimmy Capps played guitar on many of Gene's albums & is now a
guitar player for the Opry band as well as working on the 'Larry's Country
Diner' show.

Today, while on route to their appearance at the Hawkinsville Opera House in
Hawkinsville, Georgia a tyre blew on Gene Watson's tour bus.
Gene & the guys onboard the bus were first alerted to a problem by Todd
Hines, drummer with the Farewell Party Band, as his bunk was situated just
over that area of the bus. They first sought a mechanic in the area
who had the tools to remove the bad tyre, but unfortunately, the man broke
the inner tyre lug nuts off so it took the 'daddy of mechanics', Mr. Watson,
to go & fix it.
Gene & his cousin Donnie, in torrential rain, removed the bad tyre & they
ran very slowly on just one tyre (when normally they have two) until they
arrived in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
A good fan & friend, Mr. Ken Westmoreland of Kennesaw, Georgia called
roadside assistance for Gene at the concert site & those folks, along with
Donnie, put on a new tyre
(as can be seen in the photo which was captured by Gene Watson fan Carolyn
Crawford of Carrollton in Georgia) & Gene & the guys were soon
back on the road.
As usual, the Gene Watson road-show rolled on!

You know I must be in Nashville if I'm sending this blog. The manager
always likes me to sit & visit here with you & I'm glad to do it because I
enjoy the chance to tell you what's going on.
It's been a good, busy week so far. Ms.
Rhonda Vincent & I shot a video last night (Wednesday) for our new
single 'Staying together'. The video director was
Stephen Shepherd who most
recently shot the new Chris Young
video ('Little black dress'). He has shot videos for lots of big stars
including Gary Allan, Joe Nichols & many
others. I hope you like it when it comes out in a couple of weeks.
We'll try to announce it's debut here.
Yesterday I enjoyed having lunch with Rhonda &
her manager/husband. We went to one of my favourite restaurants, the
type which in the south is called a 'meat 'n' three'. I know you
probably know that but I find lots of folks outside the south have no idea
what I'm talking about. Our photographer for
the new album is from Minneapolis & he had no idea about that term so we
had to go to one after the shoot. It's just all about some good
country cooking!
I'm just about to go to the Grand Ole Opry to do a sound-check/rehearsal for
their Country Classics night. I'm supposed to be on around 8.15pm CST
tonight. If you can, listen in on WSM-AM Radio. This is a 'movie
theme' night, so I'm singing 'Paper Rosie'. The tie-in to the movie
theme is that 'Paper Rosie' was in the opening scene in the movie 'Another
48 Hours' with Nick Nolte & Eddie Murphy.
My other song will be Willie Nelson's 'On the road again'. Now if you
love a challenge, listen out for that. I'll have to see if I can
remember all the words & I've never sung it onstage so it will be a first.
Guess that's all for today. Just want to say a big thank you for all
the kind notes you've left about my new album. I always appreciate
hearing from you & I really take to heart what you say about the music.

his 'A Taste of the Truth' album which were purchased at the
Grand Ole Opry Shop in Nashville between 5.30pm CST & 6.30pm CST.
Gene Watson then made a special appearance at the Classic Country Opry Show
- Gene graced the stage shortly after 8.15pm CST.
Gene participated in a 'Movie Theme Night' & performed 'On the road again' which was originally recorded by
Willie Nelson (No.1 for one week on the Billboard country music singles
chart in November 1980 & No.20 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year) &
was
included on the soundtrack to the $11 million 'Honeysuckle Rose' movie in
1982 (Willie Nelson was in the movie which was produced by Sydney Pollack &
directed by Jerry Schatzberg).
