September 2008
Tuesday 30
On Monday 22 September 2008, the
Official Gene Watson Site
announced that Gene Watson would receive a special
Spotlight Exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

The 'Gene Watson: Fourteen Carat Voice' Exhibit
was scheduled to open on Tuesday 7 October 2008 &
would run through to
June 2009.
'Gene
Watson: Fourteen Carat Voice' would explore
Watson's career as a soulful vocalist rooted in the classic country
tradition, beginning with his steamy 1975 hit 'Love in the Hot Afternoon'.
In the exhibit, Watson's musical consistency would be
juxtaposed with his wardrobe's evolution. Stage costumes on display
would trace his 1970s clean-cut persona and
attention-grabbing stage wear to a more relaxed look through the 1980s.
Watson scored a string of honky-tonk-styled hits throughout the late '70s
and into the '80s that included 'Farewell party',
'Fourteen carat mind', 'Paper Rosie' and 'Memories
to burn'. Since winning his battle with cancer in
2001, Watson continues to showcase his smooth, clear tenor voice on albums
such as 'In a Perfect World' (Shanachie
Records, 2007).
Artifacts in the exhibit would include:
a 1970s green suit with rhinestones and musical-note embroidery,
designed by Nudie's Rodeo Tailors
a burgundy stage costume designed by Judy of Nashville with
distinctive diamond shaped patterns embellished with rhinestones and ruby
stones
a suede cowboy hat with decorative pins that is featured on his 'Between
This Time & the Next Time' album
a floral-print western shirt from the early 1980s and hand tailored
patchwork boots

Wednesday 10
Today, the International Country Music Day Organisation, based in Spain,
announced that they had
announced the names of their International County Music
Ambassadors.

This honour had been bestowed upon
Judy Seale, manager & founder of the
Nashville-based Judy Seale International, and Brazilian country music singer
Rodrigo Haddad.

Judy Seale heard about her award win while in Europe & had this to say:
'Wow! Thank you so much. You have no idea what an honour this is for me. It
means so much more to me because it comes from associations, media & true
country music fans who understand the importance of promoting this wonderful
music around the world'.

Upon hearing of Judy Seale's award, this is what
Gene Watson had to say:
'I'm delighted to hear that Judy Seale is being presented with the
International Country Ambassador Award.
There has been no truer ambassador
of country music than Judy. Through her work, she has brought country music
into far-flung areas of the world & allowed the beauty of country music to
bring joy to many.
I congratulate Judy on her continued success as the
champion of international tours & on receiving this prestigious award'.
