January 2008:
Thursday 24
The
taping of 'Country's Family Reunion' took place
in Nashville on Tuesday last (22 January) &
yesterday (Wednesday 23 January); taping of the
show also takes place today (Thursday 24
January).
Yesterday (Wednesday 23 January), the taping of
'Country's Family Reunion' was a
light-hearted affair & Gene sang everyone's favourite
'Farewell party'. Gene received a standing
ovation and, following his performance of this
classic song, several of his fellow artists
stated that they never want to follow Gene
Watson!
Some of the guests who participated in the
taping of 'Country's Family Reunion'
yesterday (Wednesday 23 January) included Johnny Rodriguez,
Moe Bandy, Crystal Gayle, Ray Stevens, Mickey
Gilley &
Larry Gatlin.
At
the close of yesterday's (Wednesday 23 January)
taping of 'Country's Family Reunion',
Larry Gatlin made an impromptu request to
have Gene step up & sing 'Bitter they are,
harder they fall'.
'Bitter they are, harder they fall' was written
by
Larry Gatlin & was originally included on
Larry's debut album 'The Pilgrim' which was
released on Fred Foster's Monument Records
(KZ32571) in 1974. The album includes
liner notes written by
Johnny Cash (26 February 1932 - 12 September
2003).
'The Pilgrim' album was re-released
by Columbia Records (PC 36541) in
1980. You can find out more about
Larry Gatlin, and his brothers Steve
& Rudy, by logging onto
The Gatlin Brothers website.
Gene
Watson recorded 'Bitter they are, harder they
fall' & included the track on his 'Because
You Believed in Me' album which was released
on Capitol Records in 1976.
Gabriel
Communications was started in 1996; owned & operated by long-time disc jockey
Larry Black, the company specialises in 'Reunion Videos'. Larry first
applied the 'Reunion Video' concept to the legends of country music.
The idea behind 'Country's Family Reunion'
is simple: ask the great people who shaped country music to get
together & talk about their history & sing a few songs.
It has not been confirmed as yet when this
recording of 'Country's Family Reunion'
featuring Gene Watson will be available for
sale, but details will be posted on
The Gene Watson Fan Site
&
The Official Gene Watson Site as soon as
they become available.
