Gene Watson was the
special guest at the Official Launch Party for his highly acclaimed 'A Taste of the Truth'
on Wednesday 26 August 2009.
The album was officially launched by
Shanachie Records on Tuesday 25
August 2009 & the Official Launch Party was held at the Douglas Corner
Cafe in Nashville between 7.30pm & 9.30pm CST.
The classic country band '45 RPM', which consists of studio musicians Mike
Johnson, Hank Singer, Steve Hinson, Mark Johnson,
Dirk Johnson, Mark Beckett & Jimmy Melton
play at the Douglas Corner Café in Nashville the last Wednesday of every
month. If you love country music from the 1960s & 1970s, along with
the music of Gene Watson, come along & help Gene celebrate his new album
release!
On the night, Gene Watson started his set with 45RPM backing him with a
couple of his classic songs including 'Nothing sure looked good on you'
(which Gene dedicated to Sarah Brosmer, who was in the audience, as it is
her favourite track that Gene has recorded).
Of the new songs included on 'A Taste of the Truth',
Gene led off with 'Til a better memory comes along' & then he &
Rhonda Vincent performed 'Staying
together'.
Gene then sang 'Use me again' which was co-written
by
Billy Lawson, Curly Putman & Dale Dodson;
Dale was actually in the audience on the night.
Billy Yates then jumped up onstage to help
Gene sing 'We've got a pulse'; Billy had co-written the song with Jerry Salley.
Gene Watson then received a standing ovation as he left the stage.
During the second set, the 45RPM group persuaded
Rhonda Vincent back onstage to perform the
Connie Smith classic 'Once a day' which she
sang to perfection, clearly display that she does have a stunning voice.
The 45RPM group then asked Gene to return to the stage & he performed 'It
ain't love, but it's not bad' & ended the evening with 'Farewell party'.
Once again, the crowd jumped to their feet with a long & rousing ovation.
Jimmy Melton then said 'Who can follow that
by the great Gene Watson so 'Goodnight folks' - and the show was over!

Today, the Gene Watson Fan Site received the following sad news
from Sarah Brosmer at Lytle Management
in Nashville.
Gene's piano player, Joe Eddie Gough, passed away early on the morning
of Friday 14 August 2009. Joe Eddie had
worked on & off as Gene's piano player for many years. As everyone
can imagine, Gene & the rest of the Farewell Party Band members are simply
devastated.
Gene Watson recorded Joe Eddie Gough's 'After the party' & 'Beautiful you' &
included the tracks on ‘Beautiful Country’
(Capitol Records, 1979).
Gene Watson also recorded Joe Eddie Gough's 'I'm telling me a lie'
(co-written with Rick Winston) & included the track on ‘Between
This Time & the Next Time’ (MCA Records, 1981).
As a member of Gene Watson's highly acclaimed Farewell Party Band, Joe Eddie
Gough played piano on ‘Sometimes I Get Lucky’
(MCA Records, 1983),
‘Heartaches, Love & Stuff’ (MCA
Records, 1984),
‘Little by Little’ (MCA Records, 1984),
‘Memories to Burn’ (Epic Records, 1985) &
‘Starting New Memories’ (Epic
Records, 1986).
Joe Eddie Gough is also noted as the writer of the highly acclaimed 'Cold
brown bottle', as recorded by Joe Slick (in the 1970s) & by Walt Junior &
the Country Division (also in the 1970s).
Joe Eddie Gough's ‘Cold brown bottle’ was also recorded by Hank Stone &
included on the ‘In a Texas Honky Tonk’ album in 2000.
The funeral of Joe Eddie Gough will take place in Texas on Monday 17 August
2009.
The Gene Watson Fan Site extends deepest condolences
to the family & friends of the late Joe Eddie Gough.
