Although I had heard of him, I became a true Gene Watson fan when I had the honour of opening a show for him at the age of fourteen. Gene is one of those rare song stylists who possesses the ability to take the writer's emotions & deliver them as though he was singing about his own personal experiences. If the general listening audience had the musical knowledge of those in the industry, I believe Gene Watson would have been one of the megastars of country music. Gene continues to stay true to his traditional roots and, like fine wine, he gets better with age. The fact that very few of his hit songs have been covered by other artists, only proves that once Gene Watson sings a song, it has been sung'.
