Joe Nichols (August 2006)

Gene Watson's peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene's Peers who were contacted in 2006 were most gracious with their time & words.  It is here, within this special part of gene-watson.com, that you have an opportunity to read Joe Nichols' quote, which he submitted to this site on Wednesday 23 August 2006.

I (Sean Brady) would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Joe Nichols who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

I w
ould also like to say 'thank you' to Sarah Brosmer at Lytle Management in Nashville for her help in acquiring this valuable quote from Joe Nichols.

About Joe Nichols...

Joe Nichols, who was born in Rogers, Arkansas in November 1976, grew up surrounded by the sound of traditional country music.  Joe's father drove a truck but also played bass & sang.  Joe would hear & watch his dad perform at VFW dates.  Like Joe's grandfather & uncles, his dad played classic country music.

At the age of 19, Joe secured a record deal with Intersound Records before the label folded.  After that, he endured the usual round of Nashville jobs that most aspiring young country singers hold down, from moving furniture to installing cable television systems to selling steaks door to door.

Brent RowanIn 1999, he met studio guitarist Brent Rowan, who ultimately produced Nichols' 2002 album 'Man with a Memory', the first project released on the Universal South imprint.  Joe & the song 'The Impossible' earned a total of three Grammy Award nominations & the track 'Brokenheartsville' reached No. 1.

At this time, Joe played the Grand Ole Opry every available Saturday night.  A few days after his father passed away in 2002, Joe performed the Merle Haggard classic 'Footlights' on the Opry.  As a result, Alan Jackson invited Joe to open selected shows on his 2003 tour, the same year that he won the the CMA (Country Music Association) Horizon award.
