Jett Williams (September 2007)

Gene Watson's peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene's Peers who were contacted in 2007 were most gracious with their time & words.  It is here, within this special part of gene-watson.com, that you have an opportunity to read Jett Williams' quote, which she submitted to this site on Wednesday 5 September 2007.

I (Sean Brady) would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Jett Williams who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

'Gene Watson is one of the icons in this business.  We have done lots of shows together & he is one of the most talented & consistent entertainers we have.

He is always a true gentleman & I value his friendship, and I appreciate him'.

Thank you, Jett Williams, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Jett Williams...

Hank WilliamsJett Williams is the daughter of country music icon Hank Williams & Bobbie Jett, whose brief relationship with Hank Williams occurred between his two marriages.

Jett Williams was born in Montgomery, Alabama on 6 January 1953, some five days after the controversial death of her father.

She was legally adopted by Hank Williams' mother Lillian in December 1954; Lillian had already named her Catherine Yvonne Stone.  Lillian died in 1955  & the young Cathy was made a ward of the state of Alabama & subsequently adopted by new parents.  She was renamed Cathy Louise Deupree.

Jett knew that she was adopted but it was not until the early 1980s that she learned who her biological parents were.  She was forced to go to extreme lengths to prove the relationship & be recognised as Hank Williams' daughter.

In 1985, the Alabama State Court ruled that she was the daughter of Hank Williams & in 1987 the Supreme Court of Alabama ruled that she was entitled to her half-share in the Williams estate, as she had been the victim of fraud & judicial error.

In 1990, Jett saw the publication of her autobiography titled 'Ain't Nothin' as Sweet as my Baby'.

Gene Watson: 'Should I Come Home' (Capitol Records, 1979)Gene Watson recorded one of Jett Williams' Dad's (Hank Williams) songs - Gene recorded 'I can't help it (if I'm still in love with you)' & included the track on his 'Should I Come Home' album for Capitol Records in 1979.
