Jenny Yates (August 2006)

Gene Watson's peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene's Peers who were contacted in 2006 were most gracious with their time & words.  It is here, within this special part of gene-watson.com, that you have an opportunity to read Jenny Yates' quote, which she submitted to this site on Sunday 6 August 2006.

I (Sean Brady) would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Jenny Yates who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

'Sean, what a wonderful thing you've done to honour Gene Watson.  What a testament to how much his music has touched people.

Gene is really something!  I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I am a fan of his voice & his work'.

Thank you, Jenny Yates, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Jenny Yates...

Jenny Yates has performed in her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona since the age of fourteen.  She has been making music all her life, first as a singer of other people’s songs & then as a writer.  She signed with her first music publisher, the legendary Al Gallico, when she was in her mid-20s.

Al then secured her a recording contract with Mercury/PolyGram Records, which led to critical acclaim & two Billboard charting singles.  This critical acclaim did not warrant the release of a complete album of material.

In the ensuing years, without the support of a record label or music publisher, Jenny made repeated trips driving across country from Los Angelus to Nashville for a month at a time.  Once in Nashville, she began working with many of the best writers in the music business.

Since the early 1990s, Jenny Yates has established herself as a successful songwriter, with songs recorded by numerous artists, culminating in her collaborations with Garth Brooks, co-writing his hits 'Standing outside the fire', 'The red strokes', 'Thicker than blood' & the Golden Globe Nominated 'When you come back to me again' from the film 'Frequency'.
