About 'Best of Gene Watson'...
Overview
At the time that 'Best of Gene Watson' was released, Gene Watson had been a recording artist with the independent record label Step One Records for three years, his first album release for the label having been 'Uncharted Mind' in 1993.
Gene Watson's days as an artist on a major record label had come to an end with the release of 'At Last' (Warner Bros. Records, 1991). Gene Watson's major label career had involved stints with Capitol Records (1975-1980), MCA Records (1981-1984), Epic Records (1985-1987) and Warner Bros. Records (1988-1991).

During his tenure at MCA Records, Gene Watson had seen the release of a total of seven albums for the label; 'Between This Time & The Next Time' (1981), 'Old Loves Never Die' (1981), 'This Dream's on Me' (1982), 'Sometimes I Get Lucky' (1983), 'Heartaches, Love & Stuff' (1984), 'Little by Little' (1984 & 1990) and 'Texas Saturday Night' (1985), although this latter album was a compilation release.
'Best of Gene Watson' includes tracks from three of the above mentioned MCA album releases, namely 'Sometimes I Get Lucky' (1983), 'Heartaches, Love & Stuff' (1984) and 'Little by Little' (1984 & 1990) and, in its own unique way, helps to celebrate Gene Watson's time at the label.
