About 'Best of Gene Watson'...
Overview
At the time of the release of the 'Best of Gene Watson' compilation
album, Gene had been a recording artist with the independent record
label Step One Records for three years, his first album release for the
label having been 'Uncharted Mind' in 1993.
Gene Watson's days as an artist on a major record label had come to an
end with the release (on Warner Bros. Records) of the 'At
Last' album in 1991. Gene's major label career had
involved stints with Capitol Records (1975-1980), MCA Records
(1981-1984), Epic Records (1985-1987) & Warner Bros. Records
(1988-1991).
During his tenure at MCA Records, Gene
had
seen the release of a total of seven albums for the label; 'Between
This Time & the Next Time' (1981),
'Old Loves
Never Die' (1981), 'This
Dream's on Me' (1982), 'Sometimes
I Get Lucky' (1983), 'Heartaches,
Love & Stuff' (1984), 'Little
by Little' (1984 & 1990) & 'Texas
Saturday Night' (1985), although this latter album
is a compilation release.
This
compilation album ('Best of Gene Watson') includes tracks from three of
the above mentioned MCA album releases, namely 'Sometimes
I Get Lucky' (1983), 'Heartaches,
Love & Stuff' (1984) & 'Little
by Little' (1984 & 1990) and, in its own unique way, helps to
celebrate Gene Watson's time at the label.
